I have heard from him and there is good news, good news, and good news. First, he thanks everyone on the Net for the outpouring of your support. You have literally overwhelmed FACTNET's phone and email systems! Despite the grueling tactics of the Co$, both he and Arnie Lerma are well and in _very_ good legal hands. Second, FACTNET should have a new email, phone, and Web page up 8/23/95 to take your messages and contributions. We will post a revised press release 8/23/95 with all the information. Third, it seems that FACTNET has finally grabbed the attention of lawyers and the press in its fight against coercive tactics on the Internet! A national nonprofit law assistance group told Lawrence that the fight against Co$ is their #1 free-speech priority in the US. And you may have already seen the articles appearing in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and others. What you've seen so far is just the beginning compared to the flood that's coming. Courage! The Co$ has finally awakened a sleeping giant -- the outrage of the Internet community. Together we can prove that there IS justice in the US. As per the Church of Scientology's policy "How to handle Black propoganda" by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology are now employing the tactic of "Dead Agenting". That means: when someone is criticising Scientology, the next step is to discredit them, using any means - in other words, a smear campaign, to try and get the public to disbelieve them. It is an old, very old, Chinese tactic, as per the bulletin, of putting out "information" on the "agent" who is criticising. The goal? To render the "agent" discreditable. This step is predicatable, and observable here on a.r.s., as Andrew Milne is now doing before your very eyes. Witness Church policy in action, people! And save the posts - keep them coming, Andrew, you're doing us a *great* favour! THESE are the tactics that are objectionable, and once the public knows WHAT you are doing, they no longer fall for it (if they ever did). Andrew is grossly underestimating the intelligence of the public! The Dead Agent campaign on Lawrence, and FACTNet, observable before your very eyes, is also an attempt to draw attention AWAY from the ACTUAL issues involved - a distraction measure. The issues are: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Expression, and Freedom of Opinion. THOSE are the issues. The issue is the METHODS Scientology uses to SILENCE its critics. What RIGHT does an organisation that calls itself a religion have to SILENCE its critics? NONE! None at all. And the OVERWHELMING support FACTNet has received is an indication that the public agrees. People want to be able to have access to all the information, they want to have the RIGHT to decide for themselves. FACTNET provides an archive of data on Scientology. FACTNET is a library which contains information on psychological thought reform processes, and contains information on Scientology - alternative information, which the Church does not like. Scientology does not WANT you to be able to decide for yourself. Scientology does not WANT you to have access to that information. Scientology employs coercive tactics to PREVENT you from gaining access to that information. Just like the Library of Alexandria, Scientology would like to see the information contained in FACTNET's archives DESTROYED. Why is it that very few other esoteric religions, such as the Rosicrucians, Ekanckar, etc have no "hate" campaigns against them? WHY? Because they do not employ COERCIVE tactics against those who disagree with their religion. They do not raid, litigate or dead agent critics of their doctrine. Hence, no public outrage. Scientology have brought the outrage on themselves. This outrage is no "hate" campaign against a set of ideas, it is OUTRAGE at COERCIVE TACTICS. Scientology is like a kamikazi moth in its desparation to silence any opposing viewpoint. The more it employs its COERCIVE tactics on its critics, the more it draws objections and criticism, which leads to MORE coercive tactics, and more objection. Lovers of truth and freedom of thought, opinion and expression everywhere have DEMONSTRATED that they are not going to let Scientology get away with these tactics any more.
