I have received what I believe to be a parody of some cult documents from an anonymous source. The document is so hilarious I can not imagine it could be the scriptures of any serious church. I would like to post this material to alt.religion.scientology. There are no markings in the document, which I've received via email, indicating that it is in fact copyrighted material or even that it is the material of the Cult of Scientology. But I know the cult you represent has a penchant for filing frivolous lawsuits. Therefore, I'd like to know how I can go about ensuring that this document is a parody and not, in fact, some of your cult's copyrighted material. Please respond at your earliest convenience. I fingered her account and she has logged in since I've written her and she has No mail. meaning she has read her mail since then. I've written her a second, polite letter requesting a speedy reply and stating that if I don't receive a reply by this Friday, I will assume she's not interested in making sure these documents are copyrighted. (I personally believe them to be parodies. You simply have to read this stuff, it's hilarious. It talks about some guy Xenu and something 75 million years ago.) But, in the interest of fairness, I won't distribute this stuff either on usenet or by email or by ftp (or by any means) until Ms. Kobrin replies. It would be nice to know whether they are copyrighted documents. If they are copyrighted, I will delete them. After all cults have as much right to copyright things as any other business. Of course, I'm not going to simply take Ms. Kobrin's claim that they are copyrighted without some proof such as 1. the original copyrighted materials to which I will compare the ones I've received or 2. a sworn, hard copy affidavit from her or some Cult official attesting to their being copyrighted. I don't see that this should be so tough to accommodate. After all, I've been nice enough to wait until she responds before posting this material. Since I'm honestly under the impression that they are parodies, I think I've been extraordinarily helpful in this regard. I also am looking out for my own self interest since I know her cult files frivolous lawsuits. I obviously don't want to be sued, so I'm taking appropriate precautions. I'll keep everyone updated, if you're interested. I will not post her mail, although I will tell you her answer, since I consider it rude to post mail from other people. Oh and one more thing. Please don't flood Ms. Kobrin with mail. She may be a cult lawyer, but she's still a human being and, whatever her failings, she should be treated with a modicum of respect, at least by those she has not yet offended.
