FROM VERA: I saw Henry's posting concerning the visit by Gene Ingram to the town where Henry lives and I have learned the following factual information which I wanted to relay so that you have a clear picture of the facts. I will post updates as the information comes in and can be verified. For those of you who are not familiar with the background of this situation, on April 1, 1995, a posting was sent to ars which contained the line, "BLOW UP YOUR LOCAL CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY TODAY!" This posting was originated from an anonymous account anon2c9e@nyx10.cs.du.edu) going by the alias of "henry". At that time "henry" was unknown but the systems op at NYX10 was contacted. The systems ops would not provide the name unless contacted by the police. The systems op contacted Henry who admitted that he had made the posting, but claimed that someone else had added the line, "BLOW UP YOUR LOCAL CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY TODAY!" Coincident with this posting, a bomb threat was received at at least one Church of Scientology causing the police to evacuate the building. The Church is very sensitive to such threats due to an actual bombing of one of its buildings which took place approximately 11 years ago. They apparently directed Gene Ingram to locate Hanry and determine if he was the one who made the bomb threat. Henry, whose real name is Robert W. Clark was identified as living in a small town in Pennsylvania (I will refrain from posting his exact address). Clark was one of two computer hackers who was arrested and charged with illegally using computer systems at Penn State University on February 16, 1990. He and his roommate, [name censored], broke into national computer systems with "industrial, educational and military use." The investigation began on November 6, 1989 when the University of Chicago contacted the Computer Emergency Response Team at Carnegie Melon University in Pittsburgh because of unauthorized entries into the Chicago computer system on the access code of a former Penn State graduate student. The system was reached via Internet. The response team is a Department of Defense organization formed after a computer virus was unleashed in 1988 that disabled interconnected computer systems across the country. Clark (Henry), a student at the time was caught on November 7, 1989, the same day the Computer Science Department realized that someone was gaining unauthorized access to the Penn State computer system. Department employees were able to determine who had unauthorized access and police were called. Clark (Henry) was charged with a felony, unlawful use of a computer. Police also charged him with the theft of services for running up a $1,000 bill for computer time. The polce said that Clark (Henry) generated computer messages in a complex way to prevent authorities from tracing the unauthorized access to him. The hacking occurred between January 1987 and November 1989 where Clark illegally entered "some 35 accounts or processes on over 50 machines", court documents state. One person who was interviewed (and asked to remain anonymous) stated that Clark (Henry) had hacked into the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. This is as yet unverified. In June of 1990, Clark (Henry) and [name censored] reached a plea bargain agreement with the District Attorney's office. They paid fees to the university and were placed in the "accelerated rehabilitative disposition program" for two years. The information as to how Gene Ingram traced Henry is not yet known. Obviously he found the right guy. I will attempt to learn the specifics as to why Henry was fired from his job and will post them so that you get factual information and the details of the police investigation. Vera
